The cuckoo bird calls out, to count the hour; and calls out once on the half hour. After the cuckoo bird finishes, music is played from a quality, Swiss-made, 28-note, 2-tune, mechanical music box movement. This music box usually comes with the very popular, Edelweiss/Happy Wanderer song combination (playing one melody on the hour and the other on the half hour). However, this song combination may differ in some instances (depending on factory availability). Two beerdrinkers move to the cuckoo call on the hour and half hour. The waterwheel rotates and the handcrafted wooden couple kiss each other when the music plays on the full hour. The bell in the tower rings as the cuckoo calls.
